Solar Water Heating
Solar water heaters are not only environmentally friendly, they are also very cost effective. Solar water heaters are a great investment because they offer a virtually cost-free and renewable energy source for one of your home’s top energy-users. Here in Arizona, we benefit from some of the best Solar Tax Credits and Utility Rebates in the nation. These credits and rebates can pay for as much as 85% of a solar water heating system. With a very small investment, one can enjoy the benefits of reducing energy consumption and no longer worry about the next utility price hike. So why not plan to save some money and contribute to a pollutant-free greener environment with a solar water heater. Starting with a solar water heater is a clean and simple solution to going green. Passive solar thermal systems have no pumps, controls, or moving parts. Passive or open loop systems work off of city water pressure and use the natural flow of gravity to transfer the solar heated water from the solar collector into the hot water tank located below the panel typically in a garage or closet. Passive solar water heating systems typically produce between 80-120 gallons of hot water per day. The simple nature of these systems provides the most reliable and cost-effective solution for solar water heating.

Active solar thermal systems are commonly used and one of the most efficient ways to heat water for use in the home or business. In closed-loop systems, a heat transfer liquid flows through a flat-plate solar collector and a heat exchange coil in your solar hot water tank. As sunlight heats the liquid, it circulates though the heat exchanger coil and using FREE heat from the sun, heats your potable water.
Put simply, a solar water heater saves consumers money. Research shows that an average household with an electric water heater spends about 25%-30% of its home energy costs on heating water. Using a solar water heater, which uses FREE solar energy, can save hundreds of dollars per year. When electricity and gas rates increase, the savings increase.
